Parkview Whitley Hospital invites members of the community interested in serving others as healthcare volunteers to consider donating their time at the hospital.
“The position is ideal for those who enjoy helping and working with others,” said Lea Ann Herron, Parkview Whitley Hospital volunteer supervisor. “It’s a great opportunity for anyone who is a people person, who wants a little exercise and can spare just a few hours each week.”
Responsibilities include:
- Greeting and escorting patients in the main lobby (one four-hour shift per week)
- Light clerical work in office areas
- Chaplain’s assistant
- Gift shop cashier
- Meals on Wheels drivers
Sharon Cox, of Columbia City, who has been a volunteer at Parkview Whitley Hospital just over one year, enjoys interacting with those who come through the hospital’s doors. “I enjoy meeting and greeting the people and even holding the door for them to come in,” she said. “I especially enjoy the senior citizens, who always seem to have interesting stories to share. There are lots of nice people who come here.”
For those unavailable on weekdays, evening and weekend hours also are offered. For more information, call Lea Ann Herron at (260) 248-9803, or (800) 325-1338, Ext. 89803.
