Orthopaedic surgeon Daniel J. Cummiskey, MD, now provides orthopaedic surgical services for the citizens of Whitley County. Dr. Cummiskey’s practice, Summit Orthopaedics, is located in the hospital near the main entrance.

Dr. Cummiskey earned his bachelor’s degree in biology in Urbana, Ill. from the University of Illinois in 1983, and received his medical degree from The University of Illinois School of Medicine in Chicago in 1988. He was awarded an American Heart Association Medical Student Research Fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas, in 1985.
He served his internship at The University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics in internal medicine from 1988 to 1989, and his residency at The Lutheran Hospital Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. From 1993 to 1994, he served a fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
Dr. Cummiskey served in the United States Army Reserves Medical Corps from 1991 to 2004, from which he was honorably discharged with the rank of major.
Before moving his practice to Columbia City, Dr. Cummiskey provided orthopaedic services at Fort Wayne Orthopaedics LLC, from 1994 to 2004; at Summit Orthopaedics, Fort Wayne, from 2004 to 2005; and at The Bone and Joint Center of Bluffton, from 2006 to 2009.
He was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1996 and recertified in 2006. He has been licensed in the state of Indiana from 1988 to present.
Dr. Cummiskey served as director of the Fort Wayne Medical Education Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program from 1999 to 2005, and from 1994 to 2005 he served at the Fort Wayne Children with Special Health Care Needs Clinic. Presently he is an orthopaedic consultant for the Northeast Indiana Muscular Dystrophy Clinic.
