Community Health Fair and picnic

Parkview Noble Hospital

From blood tests to Samaritan, pony rides to picnic lunch - there will be something for everyone at the seventh annual Parkview Noble Hospital Community Health Fair and Picnic, this Saturday, September 8, on the hospital campus at 401 Sawyer Road in Kendallville.

From 8 – 11 a.m., several preventative screening blood tests will be offered inside the hospital in the Noble 1, 2 and 3 meeting rooms. The tests offered include:

  • Chem 17, $17, which checks seventeen metabolic functions including cholesterol, glucose, liver and kidney function (this test also requires a 10-12 hour fast)
  • Hemogram, $8, which looks at red and white cell counts in the blood, as well as hemoglobin
  • TSH or thyroid test, $20, checks the function of the thyroid
  • PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) for men, $20
  • Hemoglobin A1C, $20 is a test for people with diabetes or those who are suspected of having diabetes
  • Vitamin D, $35, checks a person’s level of Vitamin D in the bloodstream

The remainder of the health fair consists of more than 20 booths showcasing hospital services and offering information on a variety of health topics such as nutrition, hand washing, rehabilitation services, cancer, surgery, colonoscopy, mammogram, and more. Popular stops in the health fair tent are the free blood pressure checks and the Meet the Physician booth where the public has the opportunity to meet some of the Parkview Noble medical staff. The team from Parkview’s Trauma Services will also be in the health fair tent and will be offering Don’t Text and Drive information and merchandise.

Several community agencies will also have displays in the health fair tent and these include the Cole Center Family YMCA; Drug-Free Noble County; Life and Family Services; CANI; Light the Night; Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana; Teachable Moments and Noble County Emergency Management, who will be giving away two weather radios.

A free picnic lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and this year’s menu includes grilled chicken, hot dogs, Nelson’s Pit-tatoes, green beans, sliced watermelon, cookies and beverages. Lunch reservations are required and can be made by calling toll free at (888) 780-3505 by September 6. Kendallville’s own popular singing duo “The Fords” will be performing in the food tent during the serving of lunch.

Fun activities for children of all ages will include a petting zoo and pony rides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Face painting, temporary tattoos, as well as a variety of games and activities such as Turbo Rush inflatable, Plinko, ring toss, duck pond and more will keeps kids busy from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Samaritan helicopter is scheduled to make an appearance around noon, weather and schedule permitting. And Radio Station WAWK will be doing a live remote broadcast beginning at 9 a.m.
