Parkview diabetes education program receives accreditation

2/23/2011

Parkview LaGrange has been named an accredited diabetes education program by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. This will allow residents in and around LaGrange increased access to critical diabetes education services.

Diabetic educator Terri Clark, RN, runs the program and views diabetes education as a collaborative process. The diabetic classes also draw on the expertise of Parkview LaGrange’s registered dietician Doris Sandker and pharmacist C. P. Patel.

“I feel education is very important to the patient in enabling them to manage their diabetes,” commented Clark. “With education we are able to give them the tools that they need to live successfully with their disease on a day-to-day basis. We are excited about being able to offer the programs close to where our patients live.”

The two half-day “Managing Your Diabetes” class series covers a wide range of topics designed to enable those with diabetes to live life to the fullest. Among the areas covered are some of the myths and facts about the disease, blood sugar testing, how food affects blood-sugar, medications, foot care, preventing complications, the importance of a support network, and more.

Peggy McKee, vice president of patient services at Parkview LaGrange, is pleased to see the facility attain this important accreditation and commended Clark and Sandker for their work in accomplishing this goal. “They’ve worked very hard to make this available to our community. They are passionate about caring for people with diabetes because they know how difficult, yet how important, good diabetes management can be.”

The next “Managing Your Diabetes” series at Parkview LaGrange is scheduled for March 7-8. To register for the classes, call toll free (877) 225-5747. If you have questions or would like additional information about diabetes education, contact Terri Clark at (260) 347-8301.
