One New Year’s resolution many people make is to stop smoking.
This year, Parkview Noble Hospital can help those smokers in their quest to quit with the Parkview Noble Smoking Cessation program.
Kim Clouse, a trained smoking cessation instructor and member of Parkview Noble Hospital Cardiopulmonary Department will be offering four sessions throughout 2010.
The first session begins February 3 and meets weekly on Wednesdays through March 17. During the seven-week session, the participants will also meet a second time during the fourth week of the class for additional support. The class is held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Noble 2 meeting room.
The program is based on the American Lung Association’s “Freedom From Smoking” clinic and uses a positive behavioral change approach that teaches a person how to become a nonsmoker for good. The trained instructors understand why a person smokes and will work with each participant to help them develop their own quitting plan. Other topics that will be covered include dealing with recovery symptoms, controlling weight, managing stress through relaxation techniques and tips to help fight the urges to start smoking again.
Cost is $50 per participant and scholarships are available.
Class size is limited. To reserve your space in this first session, or for more information, call Community Relations at Parkview Noble Hospital, 260-347-8161 or toll free, 888-737-9311, ext. 78161.
The other sessions for 2010 will run on the following dates: April 7 – May 19; June 16 – July 28 and September 8 – October 20.
