Family physician, Mycal L. Mansfield, MD, will begin her medical career at Parkview FirstCare – Kendallville on August 16. She is accepting new patients from newborn through adult men and women, including obstetric patients.
Originally from southern Indiana, Dr. Mansfield attended Indiana University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and took graduate level courses in endocrinology. She received her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies in 2006 and completed her clinical experience in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York as well as in London, England.
Her residency in family medicine was through the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program from July 2007 –2010 and she spent a portion of that rotation in Kendallville. She also served as Chief Resident from May 2009 until earlier this summer.
Dr. Mansfield is excited to be starting her medical career in Kendallville. “I consider it an honor and a privilege to be back in the midwest, working as a family medicine physician and becoming a part of this community,” she said.
She is focused on community health, a characteristic that echo’s Parkview’s mission as well. “I am a huge proponent of community health,” she explained. “That is one of the reasons I became a physician. I feel the family doctor has a duty and a role to play in the community, promoting human health and preventative care.”
Dr. Mansfield is married to Fort Wayne native, Matt Yoder who is a Physical Therapist in the Parkview Noble Hospital Rehabilitation Department. The couple, married earlier this summer, has no children yet but Dr. Mansfield said she looks forward to raising their family in Noble County. “I knew I wanted to be in a community this size – you have all of the amenities here to be a thriving community without the rush of the city.”
She is a member of the Medical Staff at Parkview Noble Hospital, Indiana State Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association and the Fort Wayne Medical Society.
In her spare time Dr. Mansfield enjoys traveling and spending time in the water as an advanced scuba diver and a former competitive swimmer.
