The Olive B. Cole Foundation has granted Parkview LaGrange Foundation a matching grant opportunity for the Parkview LaGrange County EMS to purchase two Power-Pro Ambulance Cots.
Power cots are equipped with battery-operated hydraulic mechanisms that raise and lower patients in one smooth movement at the touch of a button. With a weight capacity of up to 700 pounds, the power-lift cots nearly double the weight capacity of traditional cots and dramatically improve the safety for EMS personnel and patients, both. An integrated seatbelt harness and secure on-cot storage for oxygen tanks help free the medics hands and enable them to focus on the patient. The cot’s base is powered, as well, making it possible to retract the base and wheels and load the cot into the ambulance in less than 30 seconds.
In the first eleven months of 2009, the Parkview LaGrange County EMS transported nearly 1400 patients. Currently, the Parkview LaGrange County EMS has three Power-Pro Ambulance Cots in service on their five EMS vehicles.
The cost to purchase cots for the remaining two LaGrange County ambulances is $20,000. The Olive B. Cole Foundation has offered the Parkview LaGrange Foundation a matching grant of $10,000 to purchase the additional Power-Pro cots if an additional $10,000 in match funds can be raised by March 30, 2010.
