Mural to be placed at Parkview Regional Medical Center
Fort Wayne, Ind. – Wednesday, May 11, 2011 — Work is underway on the Murosity Project for the new Parkview Regional Medical Center.
In our community, we have people who give of themselves to make our community a better place. These individuals are Everyday Stars™. These Everyday Stars will be celebrated through a mural comprised of 160 individual canvases that when placed together reflect a local Indiana scene.
The Parkview Foundation has teamed with Vicki Junk-Wright and Santa Brink to develop the Murosity Project. They have engaged other local artists including Karen Moriarty, Teri Marquardt, Penny French-Deal and Terry Ratliff who will offer artist workshops for students, regional celebrities, Parkview employees and patients who will be responsible for creating individual canvases alongside other area professional artists.
At this stage of the project, high school students from around northeast Indiana have selected an Everyday Star and are beginning to paint their canvases. Everyday Stars who have been selected include Jane Surbeck, Rosa Gera, Taylor Reuille, Don Wolf, Tracie Martin and Ian and Mimi Rolland. The next phase in the project will include over 100 professional artists, Parkview employees and regional celebrities who will select an Everyday Star and paint a canvas in their honor.
The mural should be complete by late this year. The mural will be placed at the Parkview Regional Medical Center with prominent placement in the waiting room of the Emergency Department.
“At Parkview, we believe that generosity heals. The Murosity Project is a visual demonstration honoring our Everyday Stars who live this philosophy daily,” said Larry Rowland, Parkview Foundation. “The Parkview Foundation is grateful to bring such an art project to our community. Our hope is that patients, their families and members of the community see the mural hanging in the Parkview Regional Medical Center and are encouraged by the generosity shown through the visual stories of this region’s Everyday Stars.”
Tonight, local media members spoke with Murosity Project participants, viewed in-progress canvases and saw the original artwork for the project.
