Fort Wayne, Ind. – Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 — Parkview Home Health & Hospice is in need of volunteers to help hospice clients and their families with various tasks. Volunteers are needed in Allen, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, and Whitley counties.
Volunteers typically donate one to four hours of their time per week. Volunteers are especially needed during weekdays to stay with patients so caregivers can rest or leave for appointments.
Examples of volunteer duties:
*Visit with patient
*Sit at patient’s bedside
*Offer companionship and support to patients and caregivers
Interested individuals must complete a training class before beginning volunteer opportunities.
Schedule of classes
*12:30-4:30 p.m.
*Tuesdays Nov. 15, 22 and 29 and Dec. 6 and 13 at the Parkview Home Health & Hospice office, 1900 Carew St., Suite 6 in Fort Wayne
In addition, a new program, Vet to Vet, is being developed for veterans to be trained as Parkview Hospice volunteers to assist other veterans who are Parkview Hospice patients.
Students from around northeast Indiana are also encouraged to register to be a volunteer.
