Fort Wayne, Ind. – Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 — Parkview Hospital officials today announced that the Parkview Hospital Board of Directors has approved the selection of a professional planning firm to create a redevelopment plan for the Randallia Drive neighborhood surrounding Parkview Hospital’s campus.
Parkview understands that the move of tertiary services to the Parkview Regional Medical Center will have an impact on the Randallia neighborhood. Parkview has been working for several months to be in a position to play a key role in the economic, social and community aspects of a changing neighborhood.
EDEN Collaborative of Indianapolis will lead the redevelopment planning process. EDEN Collaborative specializes in master planning, community engagement, landscape architecture, and project management. EDEN has led over 400 community engagement projects across the country. EDEN is also the past winner of the Indiana Planning Association’s Hoosier Planning Award for three years in a row from 2005-2007. EDEN’s team includes the Moake Park Group from Fort Wayne and Greenstreet Limited from Zionsville, Ind.
“We are pleased about this exciting effort to put together a plan that will be a great benefit to our community,” said Sue Ehinger, chief operating officer, Parkview Hospital. “We want to explore how to best use the facilities and resources we have at and around our campus. Parkview Hospital is in a wonderful part of our city. We want to be in a position to offer residents opportunities for healthcare and other needed services that will assist in making the neighborhood sustainable and successful for years to come.”
Parkview will work with various stakeholders in the community to have a redevelopment plan to present to the public in mid-2010.
Following the opening of the Parkview Regional Medical Center on the Parkview North campus early 2012, Parkview Hospital’s Randallia campus will begin the process of becoming a community hospital with current plans calling for 64 beds with full-service, 24/7 emergency room services, obstetrics, surgery suites, and some outpatient services.
“We will have a significant presence at the Randallia campus and in the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Ehinger. “The campus is vital to our healthcare system. We are committed to providing excellent care for patients and families now and in the future.”
Recent enhancements at the Randallia campus have demonstrated Parkview’s commitment to being an important part of the Randallia-area neighborhood. Nearly $635,000 was invested to improve the experience for patients and their families. The renovations included improved guest services and registration areas, new flooring in the emergency room area and valet parking to name a few. In addition, eight new private rooms were constructed at the Parkview Heart Institute at a cost of nearly $1.5 million and cafeteria renovations totaled approximately $600,000.
In addition, Parkview leadership works closely with Parkview Select, a group of neighborhood and community leaders who meet regularly with Parkview representatives to assist in planning for the future of the Randallia campus.
