Mock rooms created to assist in design of patient areas at Parkview Regional Medical Center

9/29/2009

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 — A small portion of Parkview Hospital’s Randallia campus has been turned into mock rooms as a way to simulate what patient care areas will look like at the new Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Members of the media today were given a tour of the mock rooms. More than 40 teams of hospital leadership and staff have assisted in the design of the patient care areas.

“This has been a positive experience for Parkview leadership and our staff,” said Sue Ehinger, chief operating officer, Parkview Hospital. “We have worked together as a team throughout the mock room process and are pleased with the progress. We are building a world-class facility that incorporates best practices from across the country and is focused on creating a healing environment for patients and their families.”

Examples of the mock rooms include a trauma area, surgery suite, emergency room, and a medical/surgical recovery room with family space built in to the design.

“Patient-centered care and patient safety are top priorities as we move forward in our design process,” said Judy Boerger, chief nursing officer, Parkview Health. “We will be using the latest technology to care for patients, but we also want to focus on making the hospital stay more of a home-like setting for patients and families.”

The $536 million Parkview Regional Medical Center is under construction and will be completed in December 2011. The new center will be open to patients in early 2012.
