Fort Wayne, Ind. (Oct. 23, 2012) – Joint replacement and spine surgery care at Parkview Ortho Hospital is the best in the state and in the top 5% in the nation, according to a new report from Healthgrades released today. The report, American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2013: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, evaluates how approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for nearly 30 of the most common conditions treated and procedures performed from 2009 – 2011.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized as a national leader and No. 1 in Indiana for the quality orthopedic care we provide,” said Julie Fleck, chief operating officer, Parkview Ortho Hospital. “The Parkview Ortho Hospital team, including our partner Ortho Northeast, is committed to achieving optimal patient outcomes. Every day, we focus on providing excellent care for each patient, and rankings such as this give us a bigger picture of what we accomplish when we strive to provide the best care possible.”

According to Fleck, Parkview Ortho has a number of programs focused on achieving leading patient outcomes. Among them is a commitment to provide ongoing education of staff through skills labs and chart review and a strong commitment by their physician partners, Orthopedics Northeast (ONE), who play an important role in reviews of quality data. Club Ortho, a patient therapy and recovery program created especially for patients who require total joint or spine surgery is unique to the Parkview Ortho Hospital in this region and has been a model for other hospitals across the country.

Healthgrades independently measures hospitals based on data that hospitals submit to the federal government. No hospital can opt in or out of the analysis, and no hospital pays to be measured. Healthgrades risk adjusts for patient demographic characteristics and clinical risk factors, thereby taking into account how sick patients are upon admission.
