Parkview has record-setting prostate cancer screening event

8/25/2009

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Wednesday, August 26, 2009 — Parkview’s Comprehensive Cancer Center had a record-setting prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening event last week at Parkview Field. Parkview was able to screen 310 men in six hours.

“We are pleased with the public’s response to our recent screening opportunity,” said Rae Gonterman, Executive Director, Parkview Cancer Services. “Parkview’s partnership with the Fort Wayne TinCaps demonstrates our commitment to improving the health of the communities we serve.”

“It was great to extend the Parkview partnership,” said Michael Limmer, Vice President of Marketing, Fort Wayne TinCaps. “It just goes to show that we have only begun to see what the TinCaps and Parkview can accomplish through our partnership.”

The PSA screen, a simple blood test, detects potential problems in the prostate gland by measuring the amount of PSA in a man’s blood. The test can provide early detection and improve chances for surviving prostate cancer. If detected early, before spreading outside the prostate gland, prostate cancer is treatable and curable.
