Kohl’s, Parkview Announce Kohl’s Kids 4 Safety Program

11/28/2012

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Nov. 29, 2012 — Parkview and Kohl’s have teamed to create the Kohl’s Kids 4 Safety program to help parents better understand how to keep their children safe on the road. The new program is part of the Kohl’s Cares Program. Kohl’s will offer Kohl’s Cares books and exclusive plush toys in its stores and online with 100 percent of local proceeds benefiting Kohl’s Kids 4 Safety programming.

Kohl’s Kids 4 Safety is made possible largely due to the partnership with the Kohl’s Cares merchandise program. Kohl’s Cares grants funding to select children’s hospitals across the country to provide health, safety and educational programming. Since 2000, Kohl’s Cares has donated nearly $1 million to Parkview for child-friendly programing. The new Kohl’s Kids 4 Safety demonstrates the continued commitment Parkview and Kohl’s Cares has for children in northeast Indiana.

The goal of the program is to focus on child car seat safety and other ways parents and families can protect their children while traveling. This year’s grant of more than $60,000 will support car seat safety inspections, community events, access to nurses and physicians who can answer child safety questions and online car seat safety updates and quizzes at www.parkview.com/kohlskids.com. Partnerships with area organizations will also allow information to be shared with families through newsletters, radio, television and local newspapers.

“Child safety in vehicles is an important issue for parents to understand,” said Lori Norton, director of children’s services at Parkview Regional Medical Center. “One of the leading causes of trauma deaths for children is vehicle accidents. Using car and booster seats correctly can significantly lessen the severity of injuries sustained by children during vehicle crashes.”

Since the inception of the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program in 2000, Kohl’s has turned $5 merchandise into more than $208 million to help make a positive difference in the lives of children. In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares features a scholarship program, which recognizes more than 2,200 young volunteers each year with scholarships and prizes; the Associates in Action program, which encourages associate volunteerism and has donated more than $47 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations to date; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving nonprofit organizations.
